Türkiye

Hope Revival Organization has been working in Syria since 2014, providing mental health, protection and peacebuilding services for the conflict affected population with the aim of give them tools to build the community resilience. Until December 2021, we address the needs of 284,892 beneficiaries living in Northwest Syria

Mission Context

Türkiye currently hosts approximately 4 million refugees from nearby countries such as Syria, Iraq, and the oPT. Syrians are the largest refugee group in Turkey with a population of over 3.6 million who fled the ongoing conflict that has been ravaging their country for over 11 years.

Most refugees in Türkiye live outside camps, with growing but still limited access to basic services.

Refugees across Turkey continue to face significant challenges in accessing and integrating within the local labour market. Issues in accessing work permits and the language barrier, as well as the lack of available job opportunities, force many refugees into the informal labour market. These work opportunities are often precarious as uncontracted workers can be fired without notice and cannot benefit from basic workers’ rights such as health insurance.

What are the needs?

  • According to the UN Refugee Agency, over 98% of refugees in Türkiye live outside camps under challenging and often precarious circumstances.

  • Türkiye is making commendable efforts to provide registered refugees with access to basic rights and services, including education and healthcare. However, after years of displacement, many refugee families have depleted their resources.

  • The cost of living and lack of access to a regular income make it difficult for vulnerable families to meet their basic needs. Some feel they have no choice but to resort to negative coping mechanisms such as child labor, street begging, or early marriage.

  • Many families reduce their food consumption or live in substandard housing.
